Study of atomic spectra

The Virtual Laboratory is a three-dimensional interactive virtual environment for studying and researching the spectra of isolated atoms using a virtual Universal Monochromator UM-2.

Do you want to work in a Virtual Laboratory?

The «Study of Atomic Spectra» Virtual Laboratory allows the exploration of spectral analysis topics. Students will be able to practically dissect the process of solving several Unified State Exam (USE) tasks and understand the principles of working with atomic spectra of substances.

  • Unlike real laboratory conditions, the stand allows you to create mixtures of substances and generate random objects for study with unknown content.

  • The set of available materials significantly exceeds the stock of an average school or institute laboratory.

  • The Universal Monochromator UM-2 is a complex, expensive and rare device. It allows not only qualitative but also quantitative spectral analysis.

  • Study the process of a light beam passing through an Abbe prism. Observe the atomic spectra of substances and their mixtures just as it would have happened on a real setup.

The «Science» Virtual Laboratory, section «Study of Atomic Spectra» allows:

  • To interact in virtual space with substances: helium; neon; krypton; lithium; sodium; mercury; magnesium; hydrogen; barium.

  • To «move» through the substance spectrum on the Universal Virtual Monochromator UM-2 to study the characteristics of the spectrum, including the spectrum obtained as a result of mixing substances.

  • To set the needle pointer to the required mark of the spectrum's color stripe to form correct conclusions.

  • To study the wavelengths of atom spectra of the substance, record the obtained values in the laboratory journal and form conclusions based on the obtained data.

  • To conduct a qualitative analysis of the atomic spectrum of a mixture of two substances.

  • In addition to the main types of interaction:

    • study the structure of the Universal Monochromator UM-2 itself;
    • replace lamps in the holder;
    • rotate the drum of the Universal Monochromator UM-2 with markings;
    • create verification laboratory work;
    • fill out the laboratory journal in electronic format;
    • export the laboratory journal.
